ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – Nechirvan Barzani, head of northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), on Sunday called for the resolution of disputes with Baghdad within the framework of constitution.

Speaking at Iraq’s very first high level economic dialogue between Baghdad and Erbil, Barzani expressed his confidence at finding a solution to ongoing disputes between central government and KRG.

He said efforts to settle the disputes about oil, land and some legislations that regulate the federal system should be based on Iraqi constitution.

“The agreement with Baghdad to implement a joint custom tariff was an important move,” Barzani said, referring to a consensus reached by both sides to eliminate double tariffs.

According to Iraqi constitution issued in 2005, governorates like Mosul, Saladin, Diyala and Kirkuk in particular, were defined as disputed areas between Baghdad and Erbil.
