NINEVEH, Iraq (AA) – At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in a twin bomb attack in northern Iraq on Saturday, according to a local military officer.

An explosive device exploded in the town of Sanjej, southeast of Mosul, killing two – a farmer and a tribal fighter, Colonel Ahmed al-Jabouri told Anadolu Agency.

Another device went off as local residents and tribal fighters gathered to help the victims, injuring ten people, he said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Jabouri said Iraqi police have issued arrest warrants for four suspects, including suspected Daesh sympathizers.

Last December, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled over operations backed by the U.S.-led International Alliance. However, from time to time, Iraqi officials announce operations against Daesh-affiliated “sleeper cells ” in certain parts of the country.
