TEHRAN (AA) – Iranian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ali Rabiei was ousted from his post on Wednesday after failing to win a vote of confidence by parliament.
Some 129 lawmakers voted to remove Rabiei from office, while 111 MPs voted in favor of the minister, according to Iran’s state television.
Rabiei has been under fire for failure to take a suitable move to deal with current economic woes in the oil-rich country.
On Tuesday, the first round of U.S. sanctions went into force, largely targeting the country’s banking sector.
Commenting on the sanctions, Rabiei had said that around 1 million Iranians may lose their jobs due to the sanctions, which followed the U.S. withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.
Rabiei responded to criticism saying “all officials should be responsible for all problems in the country.”
Rabiei had survived a vote of no confidence on March 13.
