ANKARA (AA) – Grain silos in Sharakrak village, an area liberated from YPG/PKK terrorists during Turkey’s operations in northern Syria, have become operational, the National Defense Ministry announced on Friday.
“The grain in the Sharakrak silos liberated from the PKK terrorist organization during Ops. Peace Spring is being distributed to improve the living conditions of people & improve the peace, stability & environment of trust in the region following the agreement reached with Russia,” the ministry said on Twitter.
The tweet was posted along with a video showing the process of grain being loaded onto trucks, weighed, and transported for distribution.
Launched in October 2019, Operation Peace Spring is among a trio of successful anti-terror offensives Turkey carried out in northern Syria to secure its borders, aid in the safe return of Syrian refugees, and ensure Syria’s territorial integrity.
The other two operations are Euphrates Shield (2016) and Olive Branch (2018).
Turkey has reached agreements with the US and Russia to force YPG/PKK terrorists to withdraw from the planned safe zone.
However, the terror group has continued to carry out attacks in Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn, despite pulling out of the areas after the deals.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the European Union – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
