'Get ready' for no-deal Brexit, says UK premier

LONDON (AA) – Britain’s prime minister on Friday said the time has come for the UK to “get ready” for a no-deal Brexit on Jan. 1.

“Unless there's a fundamental change of approach, we should go for the Australia solution,” Boris Johnson said, using the government’s preferred euphemism for a no-deal Brexit.

He had previously declared that the UK would walk away from talks if a deal was not finalized by Oct. 15.

On Friday, the EU Council said it was “disappointed” by the lack of progress in negotiations.

However, the council said talks will continue over the coming weeks, a suggestion that provoked ire within the British government.
