Gaza youth dies of wounds sustained during rallies

JERUSALEM (AA) – A Palestinian youth has succumbed to injuries sustained last week during ongoing rallies near the Gaza-Israel security fence, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced Friday.

Yasser Saad al-din Habib, 24, was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers last week in the eastern Gaza Strip, according to a ministry statement.

Habib passed away Friday at an East Jerusalem hospital where he was taken on Monday for medical treatment, the ministry said.

Tension has mounted across the Palestinian territories since December, when U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

On May 14, at least 66 Palestinian demonstrators in the eastern Gaza Strip were martyred — and thousands more injured — by Israeli army gunfire.
