PARIS (AA) – The French president said Friday he is waiting for a clear picture on the disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“I am waiting for the truth and complete clarity, ” Emmanuel Macron told France 24 broadcaster.

A columnist for the Washington Post, Khashoggi has not been heard from since Oct. 2, when he visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Since Khashoggi went missing, speculation has mounted that he was killed at the behest of the Saudi authorities, who have yet to provide a convincing explanation for his disappearance.

“What's been mentioned is serious, very serious (…) France wants everything to be done so that we have all the truth on this case of which the first elements are extremely worrying, ” he added.

Macron also said that he will talk to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on this issue in the coming days.
