ANKARA (AA) – Former Fenerbahce defender Bruno Alves on Thursday has returned to his homeland to play for the top-tier Liga NOS club Famalicao.

In a statement, Famalicao said they had reached a deal with 39-year-old Alves for the next two seasons.

In 2016 Alves played for the Portuguese National Football Team to win the UEFA EURO title.

He was a Fenerbahce central defender in 2013-2016, playing in 101 matches for the Istanbul club.

Known for his tough playing style in defense, Alves helped Fenerbahce win the Turkish Super Lig title in 2014 and a Turkish Super Cup the same year.

The experienced player helped Porto claim four Portuguese league titles in 2006-2009.

Alves also helped Zenit St. Petersburg win Russian championships in 2010 and 2012.
