ANKARA (AA) – Italian football club AC Milan on Friday were ruled eligible to play in the UEFA Europa League by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), overturning a two-season ban which the club challenged.

In a statement published on CAS' official website, AC Milan were declared eligible.

The UEFA had excluded the Rossoneri from club competitions in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons after the club was found guilty of breaching the governing body's licensing and financial fair play regulations.

On July 4, AC Milan filed an appeal at the CAS seeking annulment of the decision.

“The CAS Panel rejected AC Milan’s request to order UEFA to enter into a settlement agreement but acknowledged that the decision of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA CFCB to exclude AC Milan from the UEFA Club Competition was not proportionate, ” the statement said.

The court referred the case back to UEFA to issue a proportional disciplinary measure.
