Fire guts big market in Bangladesh's capital

Kamruzzaman</p> <p>DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) – All 221 shops at a market in upscale Gulsan area of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka were gutted by a fire on Saturday morning, just two days after a devastating fire in the city left 25 people dead, according to the country’s fire service.</p> <p> </p> <p>&quot;The fire broke out in early morning when market was closed and we did not have any report of deaths,&quot; Sajjad Hossain, director general of Fire Service and Civil Defense, told Anadolu Agency.</p> <p> </p> <p>A five-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the incident, he added.</p> <p> </p> <p>The fire broke out around 6.00 a.m. local time (0000GMT) and it was brought under control in nearly three-hour hectic efforts by firefighters, an on-duty officer of fire service told Anadolu Agency.</p> <p> </p> <p>It is not still clear what caused the fire.</p> <p> </p> <p>Another fire on Thursday in Dhaka's upscale Banani area claimed 25 lives and wounded more than 80 people.</p> <p> </p> <p>Only a month ago a deadly fire in Dhaka's old part caused the death of 70 people, reminding the vulnerable condition of the world's one of the densely populated cities, Dhaka.
