Fatah slams US-sponsored anti-Hamas UN draft resolution

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – A leader of Palestine’s Fatah movement on Friday called on UN member states to reject a U.S.-sponsored draft resolution condemning rival Palestinian faction Hamas.

In a statement, Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh slammed the draft, which the U.S. has already reportedly submitted to the UN General Assembly.

The proposed resolution, al-Sheikh said, “constitutes yet more proof of Washington’s bias in favor of the [Israeli] occupation and its propensity to equate victim with aggressor”.

In the same statement, al-Sheikh called on Arab states — along with other friendly nations — to reject the “unjust” draft resolution.

According to Riyadh Mansour, Palestine’s permanent observer at the UN, the General Assembly is expected to convene on Friday or Monday to vote on the draft, which would — if adopted — “condemn” Hamas for “inciting violence” against Israel.
