SANTO DOMINGO, Dom. Rep. (AA) – Authorities in El Salvador arrested two men aboard a speedboat that was seized with 604 kilograms (1,330 pounds) of cocaine, the country’s National Civil Police said Saturday.

A Honduran male and another man from Ecuador were captured Friday night with 15 packages of the drugs valued at approximately $15 million, the General Director of the National Civil Police Howard Augusto Cotto said via Twitter.

The seizure was made following a chase led by the Salvadoran Navy Force at about 60 nautical miles (111 kilometers) from the Gulf of Fonseca, which borders Honduras and Nicaragua.

El Salvador is listed in a U.S. presidential report as a country with a major production operation or transit of illicit drugs.

The Central American country of just over 6.5 million residents has seized 6,687 kilograms of cocaine so far in 2016, valued at $168 million, according to the National Civil Police statistics.

In June, authorities seized a shipment of 351 kilograms of cocaine ($8.7 million) off the coast of the Pacific Ocean and arrested three men carrying the load on a boat.
