Death toll from coronavirus rise in Egypt, Morocco

CAIRO / AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – The death toll from the coronavirus rose Saturday to 36 in Egypt and 24 in Morocco, according to health officials.

Six, including an Italian citizen, died from the virus known as COVID-19, according to Egypt’s Health Ministry.

The number of cases reached 576 in Egypt, as 40 additional patients, including a Jordanian citizen, tested positive. There have been 89 recoveries, the ministry added.

In Morocco, deaths reached 24, while total cases were at 359 with 11 recoveries, according to health officials.

Jordan's Health Ministry reported 246 total cases, as 11 patients tested positive.

Three patients are in critical condition, while 18 have recovered.

After first appearing in Wuhan, China, last December, the virus has spread to at least 177 countries and territories, according to data compiled by U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

Data shows more than 657,000 cases have been reported worldwide with the death toll above 30,300 and 137,300 recoveries.
