KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) – The head of Daesh in Afghanistan, Abu Syed Orakzai, also known as Saad Arhabi, was killed in an air raid on the terror group's hideouts in eastern Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan, officials claimed on Sunday.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman of the provincial governor, informed Anadolu Agency the Afghan and U.S. forces conducted an air raid in Khogyani district last evening. He said the operation was conducted based on credible information gathered by the Afghan spy agency, the National Directorate of Security.
The spokesman confirmed the Daesh chief along with his 10 fighters was killed, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was destroyed.
Hailing from Pakistan’s restive Orakzai tribal agency, Abu Syed is the fourth chief of the group killed in Afghanistan. The founder for Daesh in Afghanistan, Hafiz Saeed Khan, also from Orakzai agency, was killed in the same province two years ago. Following his killing, Abdul Haseeb took charge and was killed in a similar air raid last year while the third leader, Abu Saeed Bajori, hailing from Bajur tribal agency in Pakistan, was killed in an air raid in neighboring Kunar province in 2017.
With its strong bastions in Nangarhar and Kunar province, the Daesh militants have staged lethal terrorist attacks in the capital Kabul killing scores of Afghans, particularly ethnic Shia Hazaras.
