ANKARA (AA) – China is expecting nearly 600 million domestic trips on the eve of the country's national holiday.
China commemorates Oct. 1 every year as the anniversary of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
According to Chinese daily Global Times, many have already left their homes for the eight-day national day and mid-Autumn festivals.
Although, China, a country of over 1.4 billion people, claims to have successfully curbed the spread of the novel coronavirus, many continue to wear face masks while traveling to tourist destinations for the holidays.
The national health commission reported 12 new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported. China has confirmed 2,835 imported cases.
The country has reported 85,384 coronavirus cases, including 4,634 deaths, since it was first reported in Wuhan city of Hubei province last December.
The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus around the world has surpassed one million, while the case-count is above 33 million, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
