BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – A Bosnian court on Thursday reduced the prison sentence of former Serb commander Ostoja Stanisic to five years in prison for crimes he committed during the genocide in Srebrenica.

He was earlier sentenced to 11 years but the decision was overturned by an appeal court last year.

Stanisic led the Zvornik Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army (VRS) and along with his deputy Marko Milosevic was accused of killing 800 residents of Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Milosevic was acquitted in the case last year.

More than 8,000 Bosniak men were murdered in the Srebrenica genocide in 1995.

The trial for the two former commanders has lasted more than five years with numerous witnesses produced before the court.
