Borsa Istanbul up at midweek open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,501.61 points on Wednesday, up 0.81% or 12.05 points from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed Tuesday at 1,489.56 points, a fall of 0.39%, with a daily trading volume of 42.4 billion Turkish liras ($5.8 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate slipped to 7.3900 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) from 7.4150 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped slightly to 9.0900 from 9.0990, while one British pound traded for 10.0900 Turkish liras, down marginally from 10.0970 at Tuesday’s close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $54 as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
