Bayern Munich stun Chelsea in UEFA Champions League

ISTANBUL (AA) – German champs Bayern Munich defeated English Premier League club Chelsea 3-0 Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League.

The German side secured a major advantage at London’s Stamford Bridge stadium in the first leg match.

After a quiet first half, German forward Serge Gnabry bagged two goals in the second half, scoring in the 51st and 54th minutes.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored Bayern’s final goal of the game in the 76th minute. Lewandowski has 11 UEFA Champions League goals this season.

The second leg match will take place in Munich, Germany on March 18.

Meanwhile, Spanish giants Barcelona drew Italian club Napoli 1-1 to achieve a slight advantage in an away game before the second leg in a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match.

Belgian forward Dries Mertens scored Napoli's goal in the 30th minute at Stadio San Paolo in Naples.

It was Mertens' second goal in the UEFA Champions League knockouts.

His previous one came at home to Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid in 2016/17.

Barcelona's goal came from French forward Antoine Griezmann in the 57th minute.

Arturo Vidal was dismissed for two yellow cards in the last minute of the game and will miss the second leg.

The second leg will be held at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on March 18.
