Bahrain busts passport, visa forgery cell

MANAMA (AA) – Bahraini authorities have referred 28 individuals to public prosecution for forgery, according to the country’s interior ministry.

“The gang was specialized in forging passports, travel stamps, visas and residence permits of GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] and foreign countries, through the help of individuals living inside and outside Bahrain,” the ministry said in a statement cited by the official Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

The individuals include civil servants and others from several nationalities.

“The forged documents were sold for large amounts of money to facilitate the movement of individuals between states. Several passports and visas were forged,” it added.

The ministry said the cell members were arrested after investigation that took a long time as the individuals come from different nationalities and were located in several countries.
