Albania hosts Mediterranean news agencies conference

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA)

Meeting in Albania’s capital Tirana this week, 22 Mediterranean region news agencies – including Turkey’s Anadolu Agency – are stressing tourism and how accurate media portrayals can help draw more visitors.

The three-day meeting of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (META), which began Monday, is being hosted by the Albanian News Agency (ATA).

Speaking at the meeting’s opening, Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta emphasized the need for cooperation between news agencies in order to promote tourism potential.

“The media should always be objective. Promotion is one of the main focal points of this cooperation. Attracting tourists will help our countries [including through] correcting the region’s image,” said META.

Ahmet Sel, Anadolu Agency’s visual news director, said Anadolu’s photos, videos, and infographics play a decisive role in the development of tourism and promoting countries.

During the meeting, Anadolu Agency photojournalist Ozge Elif Kizil will receive the alliance’s Best Photograph of the Year Award.

Sel and Albanian-Macedonian Service Editor Adnan Idriz are representing the agency at the meeting.
