6th Bosphorus Film Festival program unveiled

ISTANBUL (AA) – The program for the national competition of the 6th Bosphorus International Film Festival has been revealed on Thursday.

The Bosphorus International Film Festival, which is organized with the support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Cinema, will start on Oct. 26.

Anadolu Agency is the global communication partner of the festival which aims to bring the latest works from Turkish and world cinema to Istanbul cinephiles.

During the competition, a total of 88 movies by 90 directors from 41 countries will be showcased.

“Hosting a special selection of the best films of the year, The National Feature Film Competition will provide one film with a 100,000 TL (a little over $16,670) Grand Prix.

“And 18 films will be competing for the awards worth 50,000 TL (a little over $8,330) in total in the Short Fiction and Documentary Film Competition, ” the competition's official website said.

Monetary awards will also be provided to winners of “Best Director “, “Best Actor “, “Best Actress “, “Best Screenwriting “, “Best Cinematography ” and “Best Editing ” sections.

Under the presidency of renowned Turkish director Serdar Akar, the jury also consists of actress Begum Birgoren, director Andac Haznedaroglu, last year’s winner of The Best Film Award; scriptwriter Ercan Mehmet Erdem, and Mehmet Aksin, director of photography.

This year, 10 films will be judged: Guvercin (The Pigeon) by Banu Sivaci; Tuzdan Kaide by Burak Cevik; Sukut Evi by Cafer Ozgul; Anons by Mahmut Fazil Coskun; Halef by Murat Duzgunoglu; Babamın Kemikleri by Ozkan Celik, Son Cikis by Ramin Matin, Guven by Sefa Ozturk Colak, Kaos by Semir Aslanyurek and Borc by Vuslat Saracoglu.

– Support to the Independent Filmmaking

This year’s festival features the FIYAB Production Award, which will be awarded by the Film Producers’ Professional Association (FIYAB).

The 10,000-TL (nearly $1,670) award aims to support independent filmmaking.

The short-film competition will feature 10 fiction and eight documentary shorts. Both Two awards will be given — one for fiction, one for documentary. Each winner will receive 10,000 TL.

In addition, one film selected from any of the categories will be awarded a 25,000-TL prize — the Ahmet Ulucay Grand Prix — and another will be presented with a 5,000-TL Istanbul Media Academy Emerging Talent Award.

The screenings of the festival will take place in Istanbul's Atlas, Beyoglu and Kadikoy movie theatres. The festival tickets will be on sale at mobilet.com.
