1,200+ recover from COVID-19 in 24 hours: Turkish health minister

ANKARA (AA) – More than 1,200 people recovered from the novel coronavirus in Turkey over the past 24 hours, said the country's health minister on Saturday.

Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter that overall recoveries from the virus now climbed to 179,492 out of 204,610 total cases, meaning there are fewer than 20,000 active cases in Turkey.

The country's death toll from the coronavirus also rose to 5,206, with 20 new fatalities reported over the last 24 hours.

The overall count of COVID-19 tests rose to some 3.58 million, with over 48,200 new tests on Saturday.

Since it originated in China last December, more than 11.1 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide so far, with recoveries topping 6 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University. The global death toll currently stands at over 527,000.
