1 dead as 5.9-magnitude earthquake shakes western Iran

TEHRAN (AA) – A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck western Iran's Kermanshah province on Sunday, killing one and injuring hundreds, according to the provincial governor.

Several aftershocks were reported in the area, Houshang Bazvand told state television.

He said rescue teams were dispatched to the area and the injured were taken to hospitals.

The epicenter of the quake was reportedly almost 6 miles from the city of Tazehabad and about 19 miles from the city of Javanrud near border with Iraq.
